Somebody wrote: “Should be legal and regulated with assistance and social benefits programs, but without that one has to registrated.” Comments The goal of this survey was to figure out whether escorting should be legal or not, and, in case of legalisation, how this legalisation should be organised. This question (legalisation and organisation of escorting) is currently raised in many countries (in Switzerland as well, concerning the organisation). Unfortunately the official (authorised) policy-makers have a very vague idea about escorting, because they do not have complete information about this field. The escort information is mostly private and, as you can see from our survey statistics, just 3% of people are somehow ready to express their opinion to this theme (even if the questions are completely anonymous). That is why we are especially thankful to these bold people, who completed the survey. We just hope that they were sincere answering some amusing or difficult questions. Anyway, everybody who answered the survey deserves the best, since you have contributed to a common knowledge about the important parts of a human life: erotic and morality. Content of escorting Firstly, we tried to find out what escorting means (or the content of escorting). It is important to know, what field escorting belongs to: to public or private sphere. If escorting belongs to the public sphere (business, service, show, massage, prostitution) than the state is legitimate and authorised to regulate it. But, if escorting is rather private interaction, the state regulation is not desirable and not legitimate (entertainment and fun, temporary friendship, companionship, fetishes, erotic, intimate sexual, - all of these activities cannot be” subscripted” or regulated by the public authorities). In our case public sphere obtained ca. 23% of votes versus 67% of votes for privacy. If you consider erotic as a public sphere than you can count with 40% versus 50% respectively (the rest of votes are just neutral). Means (or the form of escorting) One more characteristic of escorting is the availability (agency or independent). Any escort Agency is a business organisation (commercial firm) and it clearly belongs to the public sphere. Independent escorting can be both of private or of public content: The majority of independent escorts try to avoid any association with the public sphere (they present itself as models, friends, companions, students, business ladies, etc.,) but there are enough of them who do not hesitate to make it clear that they are call girls and erotic professionals. In our case, the majority of the participants are ready to fix an escort date by their own or privately (private, through advertisements in the press or internet / in any bar, lounge, etc. (spontaneously) / in any nightclub or disco / on the street): ca. 44% of participants. Lots of participants try to use commercial erotic establishments to arrange a date as a pure commercial deal (Escort-Agencies, strip-bars or cabarets, erotic clubs or brothels): ca. 40% of participants. The rest of participants may do it in both ways (private (on your own), but with the help of somebody they trust): ca. 16%. Thus, escorting is rather a private and not a public arrangement (by content) and both public and private deal (by its means). Regulation reasons Secondly, we tried to figure out the reasons why escorting can be problematical for the society and need to be regulated. 1) Escorting is always risky for both sides (ca. 13% of votes). Regulated public sphere is supposed to reduce the risk: escorting is less risky if organized via an Escort-Agency or a trustworthy person (ca. 24%). Legality contributes to the confidence of a successful date (22%). By the way, the independent escorting is not as risky as it supposed to be (just 6% of the risk evaluation). 2) Escorting is a product of unemployment according to the majority of votes (ca.18%). Moreover it can be connected with drugs, alcohol, diseases, criminality, corruption and exploitation (40% in sum). Human trade is a problem (ca. 8%) and a gender inequality is an issue according with about 4% of votes. 3) Escorting revenue is rather considerable. The majority (33%) of the participants believe that the income of the average professional escort is 5001 - 10000 USD per month. Moreover, ca.11 % of participants believes that it is even more. In our case, the average income should lie between 3000 and 3800 USD per month. Indeed, it is more than the average income in many countries. Regulation The relative majority (but not the absolute majority) would prefer a strictly regulation (39%). According to their opinion escorting should be legal and strictly regulated (compulsory registration, taxation and regular medical-examination of Escort-Providers, etc.) About 4, 4% of participants would have escorting banned (not legalised). The rest of participants are in faith of legalisation without compulsory registration, taxation and regular medical-examination of Escort-Providers, etc. (ca.46% of participants). About 55% of them allow registration of escorting to be voluntary. So, the majority of participants confess that escorting is an erotic (17% of escort content). Erotic dominatets over the expectation of the intimate sexual activity (16% of escort content)). People would also enjoy entertainment and fun (15% of escort content), and they appreciate the friendship and companionship (16% of escort content in sum). People believe that escort is service and business to ca. 12% in sum. Escort is also prostitution by 3 % of its content. Because of the last 15% the majority would enjoy their fun, privacy and security knowing that escort-providers are compulsory registered and completely controlled (39%). Whether it is possible to combine a fun, erotic and privacy with a compulsory registration of escort-providers (and their medical examination) is an open question. Compulsory registration may change the content of escorting towards the pure prostitution. In case of compulsory registration both escort users and providers may lose such benefits as erotic, entertainment and fun, friendship and companionship and just be happy with prostitution, service and business and the trivial sexual activity. The opinion concerning legalisation (or any type of escort regulation) does not depend on education and the age of the participants (even on 10% significance level).
